چکیده

A voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) tolerant to process variations at lower supply voltage was proposed. The circuit consists of an on-chip threshold-voltage-monitoring circuit, a current-source circuit, a bodybiasing control circuit, and the delay cells of the VCO. Because variations in low-voltage VCO frequency are mainly determined by that of the current in delay cells, a current-compensation technique was adopted by using an on-chip threshold-voltage-monitoring circuit and body-biasing circuit techniques. Monte Carlo SPICE simulations demonstrated that variations in the oscillation frequency by using the proposed techniques were able to be suppressed about 65% at a 1-V supply voltage, compared to frequencies with and without the techniques. key words: voltage-controlled oscillator, process variation, process compensation, body bias, current reference

Design of Sub-1mW Q-Enhancement CMOS LC VCO with Body-Biased Technique

A new CMOS LC Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) for IEEE 802.11a application with low phase noise and consumed power less than 1mW is presented. This circuit was taped out by TSMC 0.18um 1P6M process. The measured phase noise is -115-88dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset at the operation frequency of 5.815GHz. And the dc core current consumption is 0.71mA at a supply voltage of 1.4 V. Its figure of merit (...

Wireless Low-Power Integrated Basal-Body-Temperature Detection Systems Using Teeth Antennas in the MedRadio Band

This study proposes using wireless low power thermal sensors for basal-body-temperature detection using frequency modulated telemetry devices. A long-term monitoring sensor requires low-power circuits including a sampling circuit and oscillator. Moreover, temperature compensated technologies are necessary because the modulated frequency might have additional frequency deviations caused by the v...

In this work design of a cross coupled topology with switched biasing technique is proposed which can work in high frequency region. The phase noise generated by the voltage controlled oscillator has been reduced by sizing the active devices, because the impact of physical parameter of device is large on the specification of any radio frequency integrated circuit. The proposed design is verifie...

Design of Low Phase Noise Low Power CMOS Phase Locked Loops

Phase locked loop (PLL) is one of the most critical devices in modern electronic systems. PLLs are widely used as clock generator or frequency synthesis in communication systems, computers, radio and other electronic applications. Phase noise represents the phase variations of a PLL output signal and is the most important characteristic of PLLs because it reflects the stability of PLL systems. ...
